Luciano Somerville, MC, RCC, RP (Qualifying)

As a former elite athlete, Luciano has a unique understanding of the psychological pressures and struggles that athletes experience. He is very enthusiastic about the role that athletics play in mental health and well being, and believes that performance in sport is inextricably linked with mental health. Luciano strives to integrate his experience as an athlete with his approach in both counselling and supporting athletes with performance enhancement.
Luciano’s passion lies in empowering individuals and teams to overcome challenges, enhance focus, boost motivation, build confidence and resilience, and excel in high-pressure environments. This can be achieved by optimizing their mental game through working on performance enhancement, stress management, and goal setting. He also believes in treating each client as a unique individual and aims to make a meaningful impact on the achievements and well-being of his clients through a personalized coaching approach with evidence-based interventions that are tailored to athlete’s specific needs and goals. Luciano is dedicated to providing the support necessary for progress and success, as well as the tools required to achieve your highest potential.
Luciano completed his Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree with a combined major in biology and psychology through the University of Victoria, where he also played on the Vikes men’s hockey team. In the time that followed, he played professionally in Europe for two seasons before completing his Master of Counselling through City University. He is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), an apprentice member and provisional Mental Performance Consultant with the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA), and a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

As a former national team athlete and captain of the UVic Vikes’ Track and Cross Country Team, Kendra has a unique understanding of the psychological pressures and struggles that coincide with sport participation and managing difficult emotions. She brings this firsthand experience to her mental performance practice, where she helps athletes and teams develop the mental skills needed to excel in competitive environments. She believes that all humans have the capacity for wellness, healing, and growth, despite the adversities we face.
Kendra is passionate about empowering individuals to reach their highest potential through evidence-based mental performance techniques. Her work focuses on future-oriented, goal-driven approaches that help clients build mental skills in areas such as performance anxiety management, visualization and imagery techniques, concentration and attentional control training, pre-performance routine development, pressure-situation simulation, resilience building, goal-setting frameworks, self-talk optimization, arousal regulation strategies, confidence development, team cohesion enhancement, and cultivating a purpose over performance mindset. Think of her practice as a mental skills gym – designed to strengthen the mental muscles that drive athletic excellence.
Drawing on client-centered, collaborative, and strength-based approaches, Kendra brings a refreshing mix of patience, compassion, curiosity, and humour to each individually tailored session. She creates training environments where clients feel challenged yet supported as they develop practical mental performance skillsets that enhance their capacity to manage competitive environments. These skills not only translate to improved performance outcomes, but also enrich the overall sport experience, helping athletes find greater enjoyment, meaning, and fulfillment in their athletic pursuits.
Kendra is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a master’s in counselling from City University. She is currently pursuing her Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) credential and is a member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association (CSPA), currently completing a graduate program in Applied Sport Psychology through the University of Western States.
